Meet Dr. Amanda Tulk

Witnessing the Powerful Effects of Chiropractic

Chiropractor Cochrane, Dr. Amanda TulkDr. Tulk had always wanted to work in the health field, but wasn’t sure which avenue she would pursue. She was first introduced to chiropractic as a teenager when her best friend was in a bad car accident. The car was a write-off, and her friend was badly injured. “She would hardly walk on her own, let alone drive a car. So, I drove her to her chiropractor appointments. Her chiropractor was great. He explained everything that was going on with her spine and nerve system, and made sure we understood her treatment plan in advance.”

It took some time for Dr. Tulk’s friend to recover, but she responded well to her adjustments and eventually made a full recovery. You wouldn’t know to look at her now, that she was once so incapacitated.

I couldn’t believe what I had experienced! I was amazed and very grateful to this chiropractor.”

To have seen this improvement in a person’s quality of life each step of the way was enough to convince Dr. Tulk that she had found the profession she was looking for. Since then, she has witnessed miracles and changes in people’s lives through chiropractic care that continually reinforce her love and passion for what she does.

Dr. Tulk attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, the place where chiropractic began. “It was refreshing to meet so many like-minded people in one place. I still keep in touch with some of the good friends I met there. It was at chiropractic college where I met my husband and partner, Dr. Aaron Todd.”

After graduation, the couple decided to travel to Europe to practice chiropractic, and experience living in a different culture. They moved to The Netherlands, and despite knowing little Dutch, opened a chiropractic clinic. It was an incredible experience for them.

“We learned quickly that body language speaks volumes. Interestingly enough, explaining the fundamentals of spinal health and a properly functioning nervous system was all that people needed to know.”

The chiropractic adjustments cleared the nerve interference, and people got well. Their practice grew quickly but so did their longing to be amongst family and old friends.

When they moved back to Canada, the couple decided that our community would be the ideal place to live, work, and raise their kids. Though a growing area, Cochrane still has that small town feel to it. “I quite enjoy seeing patients around town at the grocery store, or at the kids’ school. And my five-minute commute to work sure beats trekking into Calgary every day.”

Caring for Kids and Pregnant Women

“It’s no secret that my passion is ensuring that every infant, child and pregnant woman is under chiropractic care. I was adjusted throughout my two pregnancies. I had terrible sciatica and pain between my shoulders. I don’t know what I would have done without my chiropractor. Lucky for me, I live with mine.”

Chiropractic adjustments were a safe and drug-free way to help alleviate her symptoms, with the bonus of knowing that her spine and pelvis were aligned which allowed for a quicker and easier birth for her babies. “Both my labours were drug-free and under four hours from start to finish.”

Many of Dr. Tulk’s patients who are adjusted through their pregnancies refer in friends who are pregnant, and more often than not they bring in their newborn babies to be checked and adjusted. Not because the babies have back pain, but because the moms understand that a nervous system that is free from interference allows their baby the best chance to grow and thrive. “Knowing that I’ve gotten that message across is a great feeling.”

Staying Active As a Family

“Dr. Todd and I have two healthy young boys, both of whom were adjusted within days of being born. They keep us busy, between coaching the Timbits soccer teams, cheering in the stands for the early morning hockey practices, or just tossing a baseball in the backyard. Raising kids is a full-time job.”

Dr. Tulk and Dr. Todd value their weekends for quality family time. In the quieter moments, she enjoys practicing yoga to keep her mind focused and her body strong. She also gets adjusted on a weekly basis to keep her spine healthy and balanced. Exercising, proper nutrition and getting a good night’s sleep are also part of the family’s routine. They have been the key factors to ensuring their optimal well-being and health.
